Don't wait for motivation. Start tiny, and let momentum follow.
Emotional state
Flat, guilty, stuck
What was underneath
Burnout I didn't recognize as burnout
What it looked like
- can't start tasks
- guilt about resting
- everything feels like wading through mud
The darkest moment
Looking at a tiny task for hours, unable to begin, then hating myself for it.
The first thing that helped
Learning that motivation often comes after action, not before. I did two minutes of a task and let that be enough.
What helped over time
- Shrank tasks until they felt almost too easy
- Allowed rest without calling it lazy
- Celebrated 'minimum days' as real days
What did not help
- Productivity systems that demanded a lot
- Shaming myself into action
How long it took
2–3 months to rebuild momentum
Where they are now
I work in small blocks now and treat rest as part of the work.
Their path won't be exactly yours, and that's okay. You only need your own next small step.
